Olay Cleansing Infusion Facial Cleanser with Deep Sea Kelp Review & Swatches

Olay Cleansing Infusion Facial Cleanser with Deep Sea Kelp ($6.99) is a one of two new cleansers the brand released for Spring 2018. This particular formula is a hydrating formula that acts to cleanse skin and also contains biorenewing hydrators that improve the skin’s surface and texture as you wash. The formula acts like the natural lipids found in your skin to smooth and soften it.

Sounds pretty cool right? It’s actually not an exfoliating cleanser even though it sounds like one! I actually think it would make an excellent addition to a double-cleanse routine if you embrace a Korean skincare lifestyle.

It does have one problem that could be a major issue or a minor one.

I swear if I stored Olay Cleansing Infusion Facial Cleanser with Deep Sea Kelp in the cabinet that I store my razors and shaving cream I could easily mistake the can for my Venus & Olay Vanilla Cashmere Shaving Cream. The cans are so similiar! This had me hoping that this was a foam cleanser but it isn’t. It’s actually a creamy gel consistency which I really quite liked since I double-cleanse and I’m always looking for my secondary cleanser to have a nice cream texture to re-add lost moisture to my skin from my initial cleanse.

The gel-like texture feels quite lovely on my skin and did a fine job of cleansing off my makeup off without any issues. I initially tested it on its own for this review and later on added it as the secondary cleanser in my double cleanse. On its own, it removed my makeup quite easily and didn’t leave anything behind (I typically ensure a cleanser is cleaning well by following up with by swiping my face down with a cotton pad soaked in micellar water). It does create a very fine lather which would typically bother me since I like a lot of lather but since my initial cleanse is pretty stripping this was rather delightfully hydrating and I didn’t mind the lack of lather at all. They do promise that the formula is non-stripping and indeed they deliver on that promise. My skin never felt dry or tight after I used it and I always came out of the experience feeling quite smooth. They do promise a “natural” glow will be restore to my skin but I can’t say I experienced anything like that but I was just happy it didn’t add dryness to my already drier skin.

So, it sounds perfect right? Sadly not. First off, for sensitive users it does have a strong fresh aquatic scent that I found pleasant but many users won’t agree and perhaps might even think it irritating. Secondly and most importantly is the fact it can’t be used near your eyes or on your eyes. The bottle reads to avoid direct contact with eyes and I can see why as I got a tiny bit on my lid as I was rinsing and it does string quite badly. You know this is a sore spot for me. I’m not one that really likes avoiding my eyes when washing my face. I like a cleanser that will remove any left over eye makeup residue that my eye makeup remover didn’t get. Also, I just find it awkward not cleaning around my eyes as I clean my face.

If you don’t mind avoiding your eyes and some fragrance in your cleanser you might just enjoy Olay Cleansing Infusion Facial Cleanser with Deep Sea Kelp. I liked it a lot I just wish I could use it near my eyes!
